A machine tool arriving damaged is a lost sale for everyone. WIST packs every machine in a strong export wooden case: the machine is protected against moisture with rust-preventive coating, strapped to a reinforced skid, and padded against shock. CNC machines and precision machines get additional internal bracing. Small bench machines are palletized and can be shipped by air; larger machines go by 20' or 40' container.

Ask your supplier for the packed dimensions and weight of every model — they determine your container plan and freight cost. For example, several WIST band saws load 11 units per 20' container, while floor lathes typically load one or two units depending on length.

Incoterms: Who Pays for What

The three most common terms for machine imports are: EXW (you arrange all transport from the factory), FOB (supplier delivers to the port and loads the container — the most common for Chinese exports), and CIF (supplier pays insurance and freight to your port). For first-time buyers, FOB with a trusted freight forwarder at the destination port gives you control over the sea leg while the supplier handles the complex domestic part.

Payment Terms That Protect Both Sides

Standard terms for machine tools from China are 30% T/T deposit with the balance before shipment, or L/C at sight for larger orders. Trade assurance platforms add protection for small orders. Some suppliers accept 70/30 against B/L copy for established customers. Avoid paying 100% in advance to unknown suppliers.

Realistic Lead Times

Stock models typically ship 7-15 days after balance payment. Production orders (custom voltage, color, control system or accessories) take 20-35 days. Sea freight from Shanghai to Europe takes about 30-35 days, to the US East Coast about 35-45 days, and to Australia about 15-20 days — plan your total timeline with these in mind.

Documents You Will Receive

Every shipment includes the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and (where required) certificate of origin. CE certification, test reports and insurance certificates can be arranged.
